Salsa Music is a complex mixture of a large array of instruments and rhythms that create a wonderful piece of music that makes us want to get out of our seats and move the way our bodies were meant to move. Salsa, to most of us, starts of as being a beautiful piece of music that we learn to dance the basic steps to. We step on one beat, and end our steps on another beat, but there is more to the music than just a count from 1 to 8. Salsa has many different instruments that play many different rhythms, and these can all be used in the expression of movement through dance. The Salsa Timing CD has been created to teach dancers the many various rhythm patterns within the complex salsa music. The SALSA TIMING CD ON1 is currently available, and the SALSA TIMING CD ON2 will be available at a later date. For more information about any of our products, please do not hesitate to send us an email. Timing is a vital part of dancing. Given that dancing is a physical expression of musical interpretation, a dancer must always be able to stay in time with the music. Whether you consider yourself a dancer on 1” ,2”, or any other beat, it is essential to be able to find that beat. Once you have perfected your timing, you can improvise unreservedly without losing the beat you started on. Soon, you will be able to pick up rhythms and beats within the music that perhaps you may not have been aware of before, and this new awareness will bring new dynamics to the way you dance and interpret the music. HOW WILL THE SALSA TIMING CD IMPROVE MY TIMING? There are 11 tracks on this CD, which are separated into 5 instrumental tracks with at least 2 different versions. The first track is a salsa song played by a whole orchestra, including Clave, Conga, Piano, Bass Timbales, Guiro and Campana. This track is then recorded in two separate versions. The first version is recorded with a voice over counting out ‘123, 567’. The second version is recorded with a voice over counting only the ‘1,5’.
The next 4 tracks are of instruments taken out of the main song. These will enable you to hear the separate instruments out of the context of the orchestra and will in turn assist you in understanding what role they play within the song. These tracks include one with just the Conga, the Clave, and two other tracks, one with the Conga, Clave and Bass, and one with the Campana and Timbale. Each of these tracks include two versions, one with just the specified instrument with no count, and another with a voice over counting ‘1,5’. Practicing with the voice count will help you hear the various sounds and beats that you should listen out for in the music that are instrumental guides for the rhythm. When you have practiced with the voice, and have become confident with it, you can then switch to the instrumental version with no count, and independently listen for the sounds and beats within the music that are there to guide you.
