I think most people are aware of how far they have progressed without needing exams.

That's what your teacher should be giving you! And that's assuming there's a "right" and a "wrong", rather than "one way" and "another way".

They are a money-making scheme for the UKA and a bit of an ego massage for the student. But, like you say, if everyone's happy then good luck to them!!
