I wrote the list having just watched a guy 'patiently' explaining a move to a woman who I knew to be a much better dancer than him.

Then you shouldn't be spreading bad advice. The original question was a genuine cry for help. Did you honestly think you were helping?
I've had enough dislocated shoulders and twisted wrists on the dance floor not to find replies like yours funny.
